Another challenge fic!  This one uses the words “what a ride” and/or “bonfire night”.  Don't hold this one against me, it's pure fun.

Soup Anyone?

Jack stands behind the glass watching teams disappear through the wormhole.

They’re lined up like fighter jets today, each team waiting to step through the puddle.

Adrenaline floods through his system with each kawoosh, but his boots never hit the ramp.  He’s the man, now.  His job is here.

Carter fidgets unnecessarily.  Jack smiles.  She’s taking the boys on a little adventure and she’s keyed up.

The gate turns.  Carter looks up and smiles directly at him.  More adrenaline. Lots more!

And as the wormhole swallows her, he whispers, “what a ride!”

The natives are friendly and SG-1 settles in for the night.

They setup camp then sit together watching as the sky begins to glow red.

Carter is alarmed but Daniel insists they are safe, just a celebration of some sort, Bonfire Night, they called it.

But there is little sleep as screams penetrate the darkness and keep them on alert.

Morning finds them in the village, watching as the fallen enemy are dragged back into their midst.  Cheering villagers line the roads, celebrating their victory.

Exchanged looks, puzzled glances, safety’s off – moving cautiously but no signs of danger.

Sharing a meal, learning customs, making friends.  Daniel has limited communication.

Everything’s ok, relax, safety’s on.

“O’Neill would say ‘stick with rations”.  Daniel disagrees.

Carter gives in.  Soup is served.

Sam watching.  Teal’c eating.  Daniel talking.

“What makes this soup so special?”  Missing a word, he asks again.  He pales and turns to Sam who’s lifting the bowl to her mouth.  He shouts, knocks it from her hands.

“Daniel!”

“Stargate, Sam.  Now!”

Running, dialing, kawoosh!  “Daniel! What…”

“Cannibals, Sam.!”  Sam is gagging, Teal’c turns greens, Daniel pushes them through.

Jack is waiting, smiling. “What a ride!”

The End.
